Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Henry II, bare-headed with short curled hair and a ruffled collar, occupying the central field in the style of mid-16th-century French royal portraiture. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features, hair, and costume. A circular legend surrounds the portrait, reading HENRICVS II D G FRANCOR REX, interrupted at the top by the bust itself. The coin shows the slightly irregular flan characteristic of hammered coinage of the period.
