Henry III came to the French throne in 1574 after abandoning the Polish crown he had held for barely a year — a flight from Kraków so hasty that his courtiers struggled to keep pace. The half teston belongs to his earliest minting years, before the Wars of Religion forced repeated debasements and administrative disruptions to the royal mints. The Dy royales R1 rarity rating signals genuinely limited survival, not merely collector enthusiasm.
