Obverse description Bare-headed, armored bust of King Henry II facing right, rendered in the Renaissance portrait style typical of mid-16th century French royal coinage. The king's hair is shown in short curls, and the pauldron and gorget of his armor are visible at the truncation. The effigy occupies the majority of the coin's field, with the circular Latin legend surrounding it along the inner edge of the flan.
