Obverse lettering + HENRIC . P . DOMBAR . D . MONTISP . R
(Translation: Henry, prince of Dombes, duke of Montpensier.)
Reverse description Crowned shield of France semé of fleurs-de-lis, flanked on either side by the initial letter H, denoting the prince's name. The royal crown surmounts the shield at the top of the field. The date appears within the surrounding circular Latin legend, which is separated from the central device by a beaded inner border. The overall design closely follows the French royal teston type of the period, adapted for the feudal coinage of Dombes.
