| Obverse description | Bearded and crowned bust of Francis I facing right, wearing an elaborately decorated collar with visible armor at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in a bold, high-relief hammered style characteristic of French Renaissance portraiture. A large crown with jewelled detailing surmounts the royal portrait. The circular Latin legend runs along the entire periphery of the flan, separated from the central design by an inner border of pellets. |
