Nasir al-din Mahmud Shah I ruled Gujarat for over five decades, one of the longest reigns of any sultan in the dynasty's history. His court at Champanir — the hill fortress city he made his capital after capturing it from the Khichi Chauhans in 1484 — became a significant mint site, and coinage struck there carries that geographic specificity as a direct artifact of his decision to relocate the seat of power from Ahmedabad.
The Champanir mint operated under his authority until the city fell to Mughal forces under Humayun in 1535, well after Mahmud's death.
