Obverse description Central field bearing a multi-line Arabic inscription in bold, deeply struck Naskh script, naming Sultan Hussain Shah, ruler of the Jaunpur Sultanate (reigned 1458-1476). The legend is arranged in horizontal registers across the flan, with the text occupying nearly the entire face of the coin. A surrounding rope or linear border frames the inscription. The strike is characteristic of hammered billon coinage, resulting in a slightly irregular, flan with softness at the periphery.
