Obverse description Central field dominated by a bold Arabic inscription in two registers, divided by a horizontal line, all contained within a square cartouche with ruled borders. The legend reads the royal name and titles of Sultan Ghiyath al-Din Muhammad Shah II of Gujarat. The area outside the cartouche contains marginal Arabic legends in the surrounding field. The script is rendered in a robust, angular Naskh style typical of hammered coinage of the Gujarat Sultanate. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, characteristic of hand-struck medieval Islamic coinage.
