| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King Carlos I of Portugal facing right, with finely detailed curly hair and a short beard, the truncation bearing the engraver's signature V. ALVES in small incuse letters. The circular legend CARLOS I REI DE PORTUGAL runs along the upper periphery, flanked by small decorative rosettes at the base, while the date in Roman numerals (e.g. MCMI) is prominently displayed in the lower field. The whole design is enclosed within a finely beaded border. |
