The 1877 pattern coinage of Rama V represents Thailand's first serious engagement with Western minting technology, produced as the kingdom evaluated mechanized coin production to replace the bullet coinage that had circulated for centuries. Several competing designs and metal combinations were struck in small numbers that year, with European mints — particularly Birmingham — involved in the proofing process. The Tamlueng denomination itself was already archaic by this point, part of a traditional weight-based system that the reforms of the 1880s would eventually sweep away.
Few examples of KM#Pn37 are documented in institutional collections.
