Additional information

Ahmed III ruled the Ottoman Empire from 1703 until his deposition in 1730, and Tunisia's coinage of this period reflects the complex administrative reality of a nominally Ottoman regency governed in practice by Husainid beys. The Husainid dynasty had only just consolidated power in Tunis under Hussein ibn Ali following the suppression of a rival claimant in 1728 — the same year this fractional gold issue began production.

The brevity of this type's production window, ending abruptly around 1732, aligns with the political turbulence following Ahmed III's forced abdication in Istanbul.
