Obverse description Central voided cross with anchor-shaped terminals divides the field into four quarters, each containing one letter of the inscription H, S, D, E denoting 'Halve Stuiver Deventer'. A circular legend surrounds the entire design, reading MO NOV REIP DAV, identifying this as a new coinage of the Republic of Deventer. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped, consistent with hammered copper coinage of the late sixteenth century. The surfaces show characteristic flat striking with uneven metal flow typical of the period.
