Australia's half sovereigns of this period were struck at three mints simultaneously — London, Melbourne, and Sydney — with Perth joining intermittently. The George V series is complicated by the fact that London-struck pieces circulated freely in Australia alongside locally produced coins, making mint attribution critical to accurate cataloging. Sydney ceased half sovereign production in 1916, and Melbourne followed in 1918, the wartime gold drain to Britain effectively ending the denomination's practical life in Australia before any formal decision to discontinue it was made.
