| Beschrijving keerzijde | St. George on horseback, mounted upon his destrier in dynamic right-facing pose, with lance raised and poised to strike the dragon coiled beneath the horse's hooves. The composition captures the pivotal moment of combat, rendered in the classical tradition associated with the British sovereign coinage. The initials AP, attributed to the designer, appear in the lower field. The reverse field is otherwise free of legend, allowing the iconic equestrian scene to dominate. |

Gibraltar has issued legal tender gold coinage under royal prerogative since the 1970s, operating independently of the Royal Mint's output. This half sovereign follows the Benedetto Pistrucci dragon design that has appeared on British sovereign coinage almost continuously since 1817 — a longevity unmatched by virtually any other coin design in Western minting history. Pistrucci himself was never paid the full commission for the original work, a dispute that dragged on for decades within the Royal Mint.
