The Delhi mint striking of the 2014 half sovereign marks one of the few instances of British gold coinage produced entirely outside the United Kingdom in the modern era. The Royal Mint's partnership with the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India expanded sovereign production capacity at a time when global bullion demand — particularly across South Asia — was outpacing what Llantrisant could supply alone. India remains one of the world's largest consumers of gold, and striking there was as much a commercial calculation as a logistical one.

The SB7B designation distinguishes Delhi-struck pieces from contemporaneous output at Llantrisant, Perth, and Ottawa.
