| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse displays a standing vicuña in left profile, rendered with naturalistic detail, occupying the left and central portion of the field. To the right of the animal, the denomination fraction 1/2 is struck in bold numerals in the upper field, with the inscription SOL DE ORO arranged in two lines below. The engraver's signature PAREJA appears in small characters near the lower left of the field. The overall composition is clean and uncluttered, with the vicuña as the dominant design element against a flat, unadorned field. |

Peru's Sol de Oro coinage was already living on borrowed time by 1973. Inflation had been grinding through the Peruvian economy since the late 1960s, accelerated by the military government of Juan Velasco Alvarado, whose sweeping nationalizations and agrarian reforms destabilized fiscal policy throughout this period. The small coat of arms variety — distinguishable from its predecessor by die — was introduced as a minor technical revision, not a deliberate redesign.
The Sol would be replaced entirely by the Inti in 1985 after decades of inflationary erosion made the denomination effectively worthless in daily commerce.
