Peru's fractional silver coinage of this period was struck under contract arrangements that occasionally shifted production responsibilities between Lima and foreign mints, though KM#203 remained a Lima product throughout. The 1907 start date coincides with a broader monetary reorganization following Peru's slow fiscal recovery from the War of the Pacific, which had devastated the country's silver reserves and left the coinage system in disarray for nearly two decades.
Production ran through 1917, the year Peru suspended most silver coinage as wartime metal pressures drove bullion values uncomfortably close to face value.
