| Beschrijving keerzijde | A bold Chi-Rho monogram (☧), the sacred Christogram formed by the superimposition of the Greek letters Chi (Χ) and Rho (Ρ), dominates the reverse field in high relief. The symbol, a prominent early Christian emblem adopted by Byzantine imperial coinage, is depicted without additional ornament in the field. The entire device is enclosed within a beaded or laurel wreath, itself a continuation of classical Roman coinage tradition. The reverse is devoid of legend, focusing entirely on the bold religious symbolism of the Christogram. The strike is typical of the irregular, hand-hammered fabric associated with western Byzantine mint production at Ravenna. |
