| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Julius Nepos facing right, rendered in the late Roman imperial style typical of fifth-century silver coinage. The emperor wears a pearl diadem and military paludamentum, with the folds of the drapery and armour visible on the truncation. The surrounding Latin legend reads D N IVL NE-POS P F AVG, identifying the emperor as Our Lord Julius Nepos, Pious and Blessed Augustus. The flan is small and irregular, characteristic of hammered late antique fractional silver coinage struck at Ravenna. The relief is relatively bold despite the diminutive module. |
