Chinese commodity ration stamps from the reform period are among the most overlooked collectibles in Chinese fiscal history. By 1984, the centrally planned distribution system for cooking oil was still fully intact across rural Hunan — households received allocations through their local grain bureau, redeemable against specific commodities at state-run shops. This stamp represents that rationing infrastructure at the county level, issued by an administrative unit with no banking function whatsoever.
Nanzhou County is now the core urban district of Yiyang City, reorganized in later administrative restructuring. County-level ration stamps were printed in small runs and consumed in daily transactions — survival rates are low precisely because they were used, not saved.
