Reverse description The reverse depicts Saint Petronius, patron and protector of Bologna, shown in full figure seated upon billowing clouds in a frontal composition. The saint is vested in episcopal robes and mitre, raising his right hand in blessing and holding a crozier in his left hand. In the lower field, a detailed view of the city of Bologna with its characteristic towers and skyline appears along the base line. The denomination numeral 50 is inscribed in the lower exergue. The legend S·PETRONIVS BONON·PROT· arcs around the upper periphery, identifying the subject as patron protector of Bologna.
