Obverse description The papal symbols of authority dominate the field: the crossed keys of Saint Peter surmounted by the papal tiara, rendered in bold relief. Below the keys, within an open laurel wreath, the abbreviated pontifical name BEN XIV is inscribed in two lines in large Roman capitals. The milled border frames the composition with a fine beaded or corded edge.
