Charles Emmanuel I spent much of his reign attempting to seize the Marquisate of Saluzzo from France, a decades-long territorial obsession that repeatedly drained Savoyard finances and forced creative monetary policy. The 1610 issue falls in the same year Henri IV of France — the main obstacle to Savoyard ambitions — was assassinated by Ravaillac, briefly reshaping the diplomatic calculus entirely.
MIR 593 is a scarce type, with surviving examples thin across major collections.
