Obverse description The central field depicts a wedding ceremony scene in high relief: Christ, identified by a radiate nimbus, stands at centre joining the right hands of a groom (to the left, dressed in contemporary 17th-century attire) and a richly robed bride (to the right, wearing an ornate crown or headdress). All three figures stand upon a low decorated platform. Above Christ's head appears a crowned cartouche or monogram in the upper field. The circumferential legend, separated from the central design by a beaded inner border, reads QUOS DEUS CONIUNXIT HOMO NON SEPARET (What God has joined together, let man not separate), a biblical marriage text from Matthew 19:6. The coin is struck with a finely beaded outer rim.
