| Reverse description | The denomination 1/2 RUPIE is boldly displayed in two lines at the centre of the field, with the date below and the mint mark (A or J) at the bottom, all enclosed within two gracefully crossed palm fronds that frame the central design. The legend DEUTSCH OSTAFRIKA arcs along the upper periphery in capital Latin letters. The palm branches, symbolic of the colonial territory, are rendered with naturalistic detail, their fronds sweeping outward and downward to meet at the base. A beaded border runs along the inner edge of the rim throughout. |
