1/2 Rupiah Tandjungkarang, Lampung

Keresidenan Lampung was one of several Indonesian residencies that issued their own emergency currency during the independence struggle, when the newly proclaimed Republic lacked the infrastructure to supply a unified national paper currency to outlying territories. These regional issues filled a practical gap — Lampung, on the southern tip of Sumatra, was geographically cut off enough that waiting for Jakarta was not an option.

The Tandjungkarang place-name in the title refers to the administrative capital of Lampung at the time, now part of Bandar Lampung. These fractional-rupiah residency notes are among the more obscure survivors of the 1945–1949 period, and the half-rupiah denomination suggests the issuing authority was thinking about small daily transactions, not reserve holdings.
