| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King William IV facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed curly hair. The truncation of the bust is plain on some varieties or bears engraver's initials depending on the mint of issue. The encircling legend reads WILLIAM IIII KING, with a period stop following KING, and is separated from the effigy by a smooth field. The entire design is contained within a beaded border running along the coin's periphery. The portrait, engraved by William Wyon, reflects the neoclassical style characteristic of early Victorian-era colonial coinage. |
