Obverse description The obverse bears a multi-line Persian legend in elegant Naskh calligraphy filling the entire field, reading: 'Sikka zad bar haft kishwar saya fazl Ilah Hami ud-din Muhammad Shah Alam Badshah' (He who has struck coin over the seven climes, Shadow of Divine Grace, Defender of the Faith of Muhammad, Shah Alam, Emperor). The inscription is arranged in flowing horizontal registers across the coin's face, with no central figural motif, in keeping with Islamic numismatic tradition. Decorative floral or asterisk-like ornaments separate the lines of text.
