Obverse description The obverse bears a two-line Persian legend in Nasta'liq script enclosed within a rectangular cartouche framed by a horizontal rule above and below, reading the emperor's name Muhammad Shah. The regnal year (AH) appears in the upper portion of the field, above the central cartouche. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular, hand-struck flan typical of Mughal hammered coinage, with the legend filling the majority of the coin's surface. The field is flat with naturalistic calligraphic relief characteristic of early eighteenth-century Mughal minting practice.
