Obverse description Central device featuring the Shanku (sacred conch shell), a traditional symbol of the Travancore royal house, displayed upright within a decorative spray of leaves. The denomination legend in Malayalam script, reading 'Thiruvithamkoor Arra Roopa' (Travancore Half Rupee), is inscribed around the central device. The Malayalam Era date 1064 appears in Malayalam numerals in the lower portion of the field, corresponding to 1889 CE (the Malayalam calendar epoch being established in 825 AD).
