Lakshmi Singha ruled Ahom for only three years, from 1769 to 1780, his reign bookended by the violent factional struggles among the Ahom nobility that would ultimately leave the kingdom vulnerable to Burmese invasion before the century was out. The Ahom coinage tradition involved striking in the ruler's name as an assertion of royal legitimacy — a particularly pointed act given how frequently kings were being made and unmade by the Borphukan and Burhagohain factions during this period.
