Obverse description A crowned ruler stands facing in a sailing vessel, the hull rendered with stylized waves below, holding an upright sword in the right hand and a quartered heraldic shield at the left. A rosebud ornament appears at the prow of the ship. The masts and rigging of the vessel are visible to either side of the figure, and a small cross appears at the top of the central mast. The peripheral legend in Latin is separated from the central design by a beaded inner circle, with the initials PHS visible prominently above the ruler's crown.
