| Descrizione del dritto | A crowned lion rampant stands facing in the central field, holding a sword and shield bearing the Flemish lion, set within a sailing vessel rendered in high relief in the medieval tradition. Flanking the ship are elaborate heraldic shields on either side, each bearing armorial devices. Above the vessel, draped curtains or canopy elements frame the composition. The peripheral legend, separated by pellets, reads MON · AVREA · METROPOL · GANDA · FLAND · N T, inscribed in Gothic lettering within a beaded border, attesting to the gold coinage authority of Ghent in Flanders. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse presents an ornate quatrefoil design composed of intertwining rope-work or cable elements enclosing a floriated cross at the center, adorned with a fleur-de-lis at the top and small decorative motifs at each arm. Within the lobes of the quatrefoil, lions rampant and fleurs-de-lis alternate as secondary heraldic charges, referencing the Ghent revolt and Flemish civic identity. The entire composition is set within a beaded inner border. The circumferential legend reads NISI · DNS · CVSTOD · CIVIT · FRVSTRA · 82, a scriptural reference meaning 'Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain' (Psalm 127:1), with the date 82 (for 1582) incorporated into the legend. |
