Reverse description The reverse presents an ornate quatrefoil design composed of intertwining rope-work or cable elements enclosing a floriated cross at the center, adorned with a fleur-de-lis at the top and small decorative motifs at each arm. Within the lobes of the quatrefoil, lions rampant and fleurs-de-lis alternate as secondary heraldic charges, referencing the Ghent revolt and Flemish civic identity. The entire composition is set within a beaded inner border. The circumferential legend reads NISI · DNS · CVSTOD · CIVIT · FRVSTRA · 82, a scriptural reference meaning 'Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain' (Psalm 127:1), with the date 82 (for 1582) incorporated into the legend.
