Obverse description A full-length armored ruler stands upright aboard a sailing vessel, the ship's hull bearing a Tudor rose device. The figure holds a raised sword in the right hand and a shield bearing the arms of Gelderland in the left. To the sinister side of the ship, a flag charged with the rampant lions of Gelderland is displayed. The peripheral legend in Latin runs along the coin's circumference, naming the issuing authority of the Duchy of Gelderland and County of Zutphen.
