| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, a ruler stands in a ship facing forward, holding a sword in his right hand and the crowned shield of Friesland in his left; a large letter F appears on a banner affixed to the mast at left. The scene is rendered in the late medieval hammered style characteristic of Noble-type coinage, with fine detail in the rigging and hull of the vessel. The Latin legend is distributed around the periphery outside the inner circle. |
