Obverse description Half-length armored effigy of William the Silent facing right, wearing plate armor with a sword raised over his right shoulder, contained within a beaded inner circle. The date appears above the figure in the upper field. The portrait is rendered in the late Renaissance style characteristic of late 16th-century Dutch hammered coinage. The circumferential Latin legend runs between the inner circle and the beaded outer border.
