| Opschrift voorzijde | IACOBVS DEI : GRA REX SCOTTORVM (Translation: James, by the Grace of God, King of Scots) |
| Beschrijving keerzijde | Armored equestrian figure of King James III depicted in right-facing profile, mounted on a caparisoned horse in full gallop, the king raising a sword aloft in his right hand and bearing a shield on his left arm, the whole rendered in the bold relief characteristic of late fifteenth-century Scottish hammered gold coinage. The horse and rider are contained within a double beaded inner circle, with the pious devotional legend distributed around the outer margin between two beaded borders. The treatment of the horse and armor reflects the Netherlandish artistic influence prevalent in Scottish royal coinage of this period. |
