Bradbury Wilkinson printed the entire first Central Bank of Oman series, of which this is a part — the bank itself having only been established in 1974, replacing the Currency Board that had managed the Saidi Rial. The shift to a proper central banking structure followed Qaboos bin Said's modernization program after he deposed his father in 1970, and the new currency architecture was part of that overhaul.
The ½ Rial denomination was dropped from later series, making this issue the sole fractional note at this level in the Central Bank's catalog.
