| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the rampant lion of Holland, facing left with raised forepaw and forked tail, surmounted by an arched royal crown. The shield is set within a plain inner circle, with the circular legend INSIGNIA • HOLLANDIÆ arranged around the periphery in Latin capitals, separated by pellet stops. The coin is struck with a toothed or beaded border running along the outer rim, characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. |
