1/2 Real Type VII Countermark

Aversbeschreibung	Central device depicts a stylized five-petaled flowering plant or tulip motif enclosed within a raised inner circle, flanked by the denomination '1/2' to the left and 'R' to the right within the inner circle. The surrounding legend reads '10 D. 20 G.' at the top and 'M. 1842' at the bottom, separated by dot stops, all within a beaded outer border. This constitutes the Type VII countermark applied by the Costa Rican government to validate host coins for continued circulation. The countermark is struck in a small circular punch impression over the face of the host coin.

Reversbeschreibung	The reverse retains the remnants of the original host coin's design, now largely effaced or obscured as a result of the countermarking process. Surface details of the host coin may still be partially visible in the field, though they are secondary to and subordinate beneath the applied countermark. The original legends and devices of the host coin are worn or indistinct, rendering attribution to a specific host issue difficult without additional examination.
