1/2 Real State of Honduras - Provisional

Honduras declared independence from the Central American Federation in 1838, but the new republic had no functioning mint infrastructure capable of producing a proper national coinage. The Casa Nacional de la Moneda in Tegucigalpa — operating with limited equipment and inconsistent silver supplies — issued these fractional pieces on a provisional basis while the government struggled to establish monetary credibility. The billon composition, well below the silver standard of the colonial reales it nominally replaced, reflects both the poverty of Honduran treasury reserves and the political instability that consumed the early republic.
