Obverse description Central design features the Guatemalan coat of arms, consisting of a quetzal bird perched atop a scroll bearing the independence inscription, flanked by two crossed rifles and two crossed swords, all enclosed within a wreath of laurel branches. The scroll reads 'LIBERTAD 15 DE SETIEMre DE 1821' in multiple lines. In the exergue below the wreath, the silver fineness '0835' and date '1890' are separated by a five-pointed star.
