| Obverse description | An eagle displayed standing upon an arched bridge, rendered in low relief in the crude cast style characteristic of Mexican insurgent coinage. The eagle faces to the left and serves as the central device of the field. The surrounding circular legend reads VICE FERD. VII DEI GRATIA ET, invoking the name of Ferdinand VII by the grace of God, in keeping with the royalist formula adopted by the insurgent Congress to lend legitimacy to their coinage. The overall execution is irregular, reflecting the improvised minting conditions of the independence movement. |
