Luis I reigned for just seven months in 1724 before dying of smallpox at seventeen, making his coinage among the shortest-reigned of any Spanish monarch. The Lima mint continued striking coins in his name into 1725, after Philip V had already resumed the throne — meaning this piece was almost certainly minted under a king whose name it does not bear.
