| Reverse description | The reverse displays a roughly struck heraldic cross of Jerusalem type, with the four quadrants separated by a bold cross potent, surrounded by the partial outline of a tressure or castle-and-lion quartered shield, as is standard for Spanish colonial cob coinage of this period. The design is characteristic of the macuquina half real, with the cross dominating the available field on the irregular flan. Details are softly struck and partially off-flan, consistent with the hammered cob production method employed at the Mexico City Mint in the early eighteenth century. |
