Reversbeschreibung A ceiba tree occupies the center of the reverse field, flanked by the fractional denomination value divided on either side of the trunk. A patriotic motto encircles the central device in the outer legend. In the lower portion of the field, the mint mark NG (Nueva Guatemala) appears alongside the assayer's initial M and the silver fineness designation 10D•20G, indicating a standard of approximately 0.902 fine silver. The design reflects the iconographic conventions of early Federal Republic of Central America coinage.

Zusätzliche Informationen

The Federal Republic of Central America declared independence from Mexico in July 1823 and almost immediately confronted the problem of a currency vacuum — Spanish colonial coinage still circulated, but a new sovereign government needed its own issues. This 1824 emission was among the first struck under the new republic, produced at the Guatemala City mint before the federation began fracturing under regional rivalries that would ultimately dissolve it entirely by 1841.

KM#2 is the foundational type of the series. Guatemala was the dominant mint in the federation throughout its short life, as the other proposed mints in San Salvador and Comayagua never achieved consistent production.
