Další informace

Fernando VII never set foot in the Americas, yet coins struck in his name circulated throughout Central America for over a decade — a period when his actual authority over Spain was intermittent at best, having been deposed by Napoleon in 1808 and replaced by Joseph Bonaparte. The Guatemala mint continued striking in his name throughout the Peninsular War and the subsequent constitutional crises, making this issue a product of loyalty to an absent, politically compromised monarch.

The 1820 Liberal Revolution in Spain forced Fernando to restore the Constitution of 1812, which directly accelerated independence movements across Central America. Guatemala declared independence in September 1821, ending this series mid-reign.
