| Beschrijving keerzijde | Two crowned Pillars of Hercules flank a pair of hemispheres representing the Old and New Worlds, the whole surmounted by a large royal crown symbolizing Spanish imperial dominion. The pillars rest on a wavy sea, and the design conveys the motto of the Spanish colonial empire. The circular Latin legend VTRA QUE VNUM — meaning 'Both are one' — surrounds the central device. The mint mark, assayer initial, and date (visible as 1757 on the illustrated example) appear in the lower field between the bases of the pillars, following standard Lima Mint practice for the macuquina-to-milled transitional period. |
