Obverse description Central field displays the crowned Gothic monogram of Fernando and Isabel (the interlaced letters F and Y surmounted by a royal crown), struck in high relief characteristic of late 15th-century Castilian hammered coinage. The monogram is rendered in a bold, angular Gothic style. A circular Latin legend runs around the periphery, separated from the central device by a beaded inner border. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hand-struck medieval Hispanic coinage.
